If you're thinking of working online, you've mostly got one of these thoughts in mind:
I know I have to go back and redo many, but time is an issue and all I can say is I lack determination at times - I'm going to be working on this factor, else I'll not be able to PEDAL away!
- You want to work online to supplement your income
- You've recently lost your job and are in need of an alternate income stream
- You're just looking for a way to spend your time meaningfully or
- You just want to have fun doing something you love on a huge platform.
P = Perseverance
E = Endurance
D = Determination
A = Attitude
L = Love
Before we take a look at what you'd have to do and how you need to go about it, let's check out the basics of PEDAL
I've been writing and doing other stuff online for the past 10 months now - It may seem long; but, it's nothing when you consider what others have done. But, I've learnt a fair bit!
Perseverance
Here's the dictionary meaning: Continue in a particular course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little/no signs of success.
Beginning a career online is similar to setting up of an offline business. However, in this case you may be on your own and not have business partners to work besides you. It's not going to be easy, and there are plenty of successful people (I don't consider myself to be one, but I'm happy with the way things are at present) online who'd vouch for that!
Whether you're writing for clients or on revenue sharing sites, you're going to face rejection. Your job proposals will be turned down; 'Why?' you may ask: Well, it's because of the lack of feedback and live samples on your side - More on how to land your first Freelance Writing Job later on!
When you begin writing online, the content you publish takes time to mature and age; plus, you'd have to do a lot more than just write if you want to see the light of day. We'll look into the basics of writing online later on. Just remember - It's not easy. There are no get rich quick offers for you to grab on to.
Endurance
If you want the literal meaning: Endure would be to Suffer and Tolerate. Yes, when you work online no matter what you plan to do, there are going to be times when you feel like giving up. I know it, I've been there and I'm glad I went on and never gave up.
I've always loved to write, but when people never visited - It's definitely disheartening. But, things have changed for the better.
Determination
If you're not determined to achieve something, you'd never be able to do it. Set goals for yourself. Remember, when you do anything online, be it writing for clients or revenue sharing sites - you need to plan. One thing that you need to realize is the fact that quality matters and not quantity. You could write hundreds of articles and not receive anything from them, whereas a person with just 30 (I have 30 on Hub Pages) seems to get a decent number of visits. On top of that, I just have 3 - 4 high quality pages and they're the ones getting me the traffic.

Attitude
Develop a Positive Attitude - If you possess positive attitude, you're surely going to be confident and Persevere in your work.
The Attitude of Never Giving Up - If you begin something and then give up due to lack of success, all your past efforts and time would have been nothing but an effort in vain. However, if you dust your feet and try harder, you've already got a base; so, this time use a concrete foundation and build on solid rock rather than lose sand.
The Attitude to Learn from your mistakes - We all make mistakes and that's what makes us Human! It's mistakes and troubles that lead to new inventions and success. So, if you're not making mistakes you should be worried.
The Attitude of Listening to others - Ego is a part and parcel of Human nature. But, when it comes to working online, there's lots of work and people are willing to help each other out. That's the reason you should keep an open mind and take all the criticism that's thrown on you.
Some people may say it in kind words whereas others may be harsh. But, remember - if they're not trying to help you, they would never point out your mistakes.
